Where are the camp sites?

APLUS academic summer camp is held at:
Rockville campus: 215 West Montgomery Ave. Rockville, MD 20850

Who are the summer camp teachers?

For Math, Writing, Grammar, Public Speaking courses, all teachers are certified professional teachers with years of teaching experiences. For prep courses, some teachers may not be certified but are teaching at college level or having extensive experiences in teaching SAT, GT/MS/HS Prep.

There are 3 sessions. Are they the same?

Yes. All three sessions are repeated. Therefore, you only need to register one session for your child. However, we do have many students enrolled in more than one session but taking different courses. For example, some may enroll morning camp in Session 1 but afternoon camp in Session 2.

What is the difference between AM Critical Reading & Writing and PM Writing Workshops?

As the course title suggests, Critical Reading & Writing courses in AM camp focus on “critical reading” while PM Writing Workshops focus on “writing”.
In the AM Critical Reading & Writing classes, students work on many stimulating reading selections, including novels, short stories, poetry and other works of literature that make the summer learning an interesting experience. PM Writing Workshops help students learn to read more challenging literature with greater skill, to write more complex and mature compositions, and to develop independent analytical skills.

What is covered in the SAT course? Who can attend SAT Prep?

SAT class covers math, reading comprehension, grammar and writing. Each SAT course includes three actual practice tests.
Students usually start practicing SAT or PSAT in 9th grade. However, it is not unusual to see a student starting to work on SAT in 8th grade, especially for those who want to prepare for T.J./Magnet/IB test or private high school admission test.

How early can I drop off my child in the morning?

8:30am for morning camp and anytime between 12:30pm and 1:25pm for afternoon camp.

How late can my child stay?

For AM campers, they must be picked up by 12:45pm and for PM campers, they can stay until 5:30pm.

My child enrolled in both AM and PM camps. Can my child stay at the center during 12:00pm – 1:30pm?

Yes. You should pack a lunch for your child and he/she will have lunch at our designated lunch room.

Are there any vending machines available on site? Refrigerator? Microwave oven?

Refrigerator and microwave oven are available but not vending machine.

I would like to carpool with other parents. Can you help?

We can only provide you information about other students who live in nearby communities. Parents should coordinate carpool themselves.

Is my child under supervision all the time?

Yes. Your child is under our supervision all the time during camp. Safety is our priority, and for the past 10 years, there has never been a safety incidents concern.

My child has not taken a placement test yet. So, what level should I enroll my child?

You can enroll your child based on the entering grade level in this fall. After placement, we will change his/her class, if necessary.

Will the book deposit be returned?

Yes. At the end of the session, textbooks will be collected. The book deposit will then be returned provided that the book is in good condition, with normal wear and tear.

Is there any homework? How much homework is assigned?

Students can expect to work on their homework for about an hour each day. It may take a little bit longer if reading and essay writing is involved.

It is summer! Why homework?

Summer is the best time to enjoy reading and writing without much pressure from school. APLUS academic summer camp uses many excellent novels and literature works in the class, and students will find the class very interesting. Homework is an effective way to keep students focused at home.

For those who enroll half day warm-up camp or partial camp, like 2 weeks instead of 3 weeks, no discount will be granted.
